HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO A FASHION ICON

LADY GAGA
The fashion icon and musically talented
woman of the year is turning 24. Offically she turned the 2-4 yestorday and people were celebrating all over!
She is not only known for her wild, outrageous style but her loud beautiful singing voice!
Heres some information and photos of this fabulous lady!

Lady Gaga was born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta on March 28, 1986. She is an American recording artist. She began performing in the rock music scene of New York City's Lower East Side.

Birth name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta
Born March 28, 1986 (1986-03-28) (age 24)

Lady Gaga is known for her fashion power and inspires many woman and girls today into going for the fashion industry. Lady Gaga is inspired by glam rock musicians such as David Bowie and Freddie Mercury, as well as pop music artists such as Madonna and Michael Jackson. She has also stated fashion is a source of inspiration for her songwriting and performances. She has sold over ten million albums and over thirty-five million singles worldwide.

Lady Gaga has stated that she is "very into fashion" and that it is "everything" to her She has her own creative production team called the Haus of Gaga, which she handles personally. The team creates many of her clothes, stage props, and hairdos.

Her love of fashion came from her mother, who she stated was "always very well kept and beautiful." She said that: "When I'm writing music, I'm thinking about the clothes I want to wear on stage. It's all about everything altogether—performance art, pop performance art, fashion. For me, it's everything coming together and being a real story that will bring back the super-fan. I want to bring that back. I want the imagery to be so strong that fans will want to eat and taste and lick every part of us."

Personally, I am a HUGE fan of hers. She is the modern day Cyndi Lauper in my book! A singing and walking fashion statement /trend.

She is truely amazing and so talented!
Happy Birthday Lady Gaga!

T-mobile Helping Schools / UFC Night

As I was doing some much needed Spring Cleaning in my room, I went threw alot of boxes and I came
across one with old cellphones. I went online and searched Recycled Cell-phones - I came across T-mobile's Help schools earn money for technology equipment. I was very happy. I read into the details of it and it seemed perfect. The phones I came across happened to be TMOBILE so that worked out, due to my change over to Verizon recently a year ago. I donated 2 Sidekicks and 1 Pink Razor Flip. People have to realize a little something like that goes a long way and helps alot!

Look into DONATION of all sorts & see how you can HELP out!

Last night was the kick off of alot of college student's Spring Break. My girls and I went to a local bar and watched the UFC fight featuring GS Pierre VS. Dan Hardy. Alot of people dont like the underdog aka. The Outlaw Dan Hardy but I absolutely love him. The fight was pretty tight where GSP had Dan in lock alot. Twisting his arm, my gosh - it looked so painful! Hardy stayed true and didnt tap out. I hope he earned alot more respect after this fight - it showed how hungry he is and strong to keep fighting through!

What are you doing this spring break? -are you home watching MTV Spring Break? or are you there - in mexico!?

Whatever you are doing for your time off - have fun and be safe!

Donations & Book Buy Backs

Yestorday I went to the book-store and received cash from a buyback of my Anatomy book.
With buy-backs its great because you get cash in return and you can buy another book for your next class!

Today was beautiful! Gathered alot of clothing among my family and friends and put together a whole lot of bags adding up to the number of 600 bags ive ever donated or helped donate!

People forget that summer is coming up, homeless need a change of clothing too! People usually think to donate around christmas, which is absolutely great! BUT please keep in mind it doesnt stop just there!

Computer Applications

We just completed the Excel Chapters and had a test. I think Excel believe it or not was the hardest. Alot of people actually don't know how to use it or maybe do but just not all the crazy things you can do! I learned so much. Making graphs, charts, but all to fancy professional layouts that just blew me away! Taking chapters on word and powerpoint were easy because I've been using those programs for years but, excel was a challange!

Is everyone ready for Spring classes?
I hope so, classes are pretty much filled up!
SOOOO.. HURRY UP!

STUDENT POLL & THE PRICE OF BEAUTY

The Student Poll has been talied up! ( What was your favorite class at Berkeley?)

Surprisingly- out of the responses here are the most popular classes:

  1. Law & Society
  2. Health Services- Anatomy
  3. Gender & Race
  4. Consumer Behavior - Marketing
and a more-like letter that any class with Professor Hill such as Intro to Criminal Justice and Police and Society is great!

Thank you to all whom participated!

THE PRICE OF BEAUTY
As for the next part of my blog - let me tell you about the show The Price Of Beauty featuring Jessica Simpson. I actually love it and for its goal to be true to its title - it is captured in each episode greatly and still lets us see the fun loving Jessica as much as the serious careing side of her.

The episode I saw was dealing with Asian countries. I was paying extra attention since I am half from asian decent. Apparently, it is a great deal to be pale skin white over there it gives the sense of being wealthy and beautiful when being tan gives out the message of poor - people who work in the fields under the sun. I never knew nor thought of that, its strange. Especially because, here in the U.S we are all about tan-tan skin and always being under the sun. They then met with a woman who bought products that promised to lighten the skin (not knowing it had bleach) and it ruined her skin. Due to that she lost everything - including her husband leaving her because of how she looked. How horrible. She was a singer and wanted to stay "beautiful" and trying to be what other people think is beautiful nearly killed her. I approve of this show and I hope it touches peoples lives and makes people stop judging and hurting young girls.

Ttyl, have to work on my Business Organization paper.

IN MY HOME TOWN

Well, as I have reported to you all yesterday - My town had been rocked by the storm pretty bad. We are still with out power and the water is still contaminated. Boiling water is a must! A lot of homes were damaged by trees due to this area being well known for its woods. We are high up with older trees which means that the roots of these trees are not deep in the ground but spread sideways across the ground so they were knocked over by the wind easily especially since the ground has been soaked from all the wet snow we've had up here as well. News 12 New Jersey had featured some of my pictures that I have taken!

In my house, were lucky to have heat since my step-father is crazy and created a way with a bunch of RV batteries hooked up to my car charging them constantly to all the right things to get the heat going in the house and switch it on and off from heat to charging the fridge. Its hard to explain, I don't even know how he did it. Genius though!

I have my Computer-Applications class tonight. I hope most of the roads are cleared now. In this area there are road blocks all over including my street. Local cops patrolling at night, its insane! Neighbors asking neighbors for help due to flooding in basements and or asking if they have extra bottled water - its almost a mini emergency zone!

Last night by candles and lanterns I completed reading The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks. Man, does he know how to make you cry! Seriously, I know he's a very talented writer and yes his stories all have things in common but the end is always a surprise! And boy was I shocked! I love the ending in this book! It is a amazing worth while read! I will post a blog about the book with details another time. I must get ready to go out! Be safe out there!

90,000 AND COUNTING..

Five O'clock this morning the phone rang and it was a machine advising us that 90,000 people in New Jersey are still with out power and water. What a nightmare! My parents called me and told me that the town is still considered under a state of emergency due to so many road blocks, no water or power in any block of its entirety of the town. To be exact here the information I had read up and found in detail. PSE&G reported 156,000 outages as of noon yesterday, said a company spokesman Paul Rosengren. Of those, 90,000 are in Bergen County, 24,000 in Passaic and Essex counties and 22,000 in Middlesex, Union and Somerset counties. Horrible! Just horrible!

Prior to the water systems being shut down in my home town the original message was:

The advisory was put in effect in the following areas of Bergen County until further notice:
Hillsdale, Northvale, Washington Township, Emerson, Alpine, Paramus, Dumont, Englewood Cliffs, Teaneck, Hasbrouck Heights, Carlstadt, Ridgefield, North Bergen, Union City, Englewood, Tenafly, Palisades Park and Cliffside Park. Residents are asked to boil their water for one minute for drinking, cooking or baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula or food, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets and all other consumption. BUT! Last minute change they turned off all water in my town, I don't know about the others!

Driving around is dangerous due to the trees and cables down and road blocks! Be careful!

I don't have class today but I do tomorrow night.. mm.. I hope all will be fixed by than but I highly doubt it.

Checking on the website - you will see - at Paramus the campus is open and classes are in session today. So be careful driving in all towns and areas!

STORMING

Light rain. Cloudy with strong and gusty winds. Temperatures steady in the mid 40s. Winds up to about 40 mph. Sounds great, huh?

This weather is insane, thank god I don't have a class to attend on Saturdays like some friends I have at their schools. It's terrible out and dangerous. 4 trees have already been knocked down near my home. Most of my friends lost power so I am fortunate to be blogging right now. While also checking my grades on black-board where I shall get my info about my up-coming final exams. I have a final exam for my business class next Thursday. I am very nervous. My professor had told me that if we have any questions we shall e-mail him as soon as possible and he will help us.

Right now, I am currently downloading the file that has the questions, he had posted up on blackboard. There is about 6 and 3 out of those will be chosen to be the final. I better start studying now than! Might as well since driving conditions and weather is absolutely horrendous!

My professor has also posted up the following:

NYTimes: Critical Thinking and the Future Manager

"As I mentioned the first day of class, Critical Thinking skills and conceptual understanding are the Competitive Advantages of the future manager (like you )"
Read: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/10/business/10mba.html?emc=eta1

I read and realized my professor is right on target. Especially when I read this statement:

“If I’m going to really launch you on a career or path where you can make a big impact in the world,” explains the school’s dean, Garth Saloner, “you have to be able to think critically and analytically about the big problems in the world.” -(New York Times Article)

Another part of the article that grabbed my attention was:

"Students in the critical-thinking course explore difficult, broad problems that require value-laden trade-offs. For example, should Google locate its servers for Chinese customers outside China, which might provide inferior service, or inside China, where material could be censored?" - (New York Times Article)

This was a huge topic of discussion in our class. China seems to be taking over alot of things and starting to become the next US. Everyday they are speeding up. It's pretty amazing to follow through news articles.

Well, I'll update you later! Have to look up the two Factor Theory of Herzberg's Theory of Motivation.

*UPDATE*

As promised here is an update on my interview today.

I dressed up but still something comfortable yet presentable.

The manager asked me these questions:

" Tell me about yourself, who are you, what makes you YOU?"
"What would you bring to the table, and how is it a good advantage for our brand?"
"What do you do in your spare time?"
"What brands do you like and enjoy wearing?"
"At your previous job, what were you doing?"
"Did someone help you get that job?"
"How do you react to all sorts of different people?"
"How do you describe your best customer service experiance?"

I tried to stay calm because personally I know I get nervous and turn red.
Hope these questions help prepare you for your interviews!

REMINDER:
Please take the Student Poll in the Student Center of the Bergen Campus - What is your favorite Class? - I will be collecting this data by the end of next week!

As you may have read previously in other blogs, you may recall that I was laid-off about 2 months ago. Jobs are so hard to find right now. Headlines of the news are still upsetting when it comes to unemployment. For example, Obama's Stimulus Package Will Increase Unemployment - President Obama and the Democrats’ “stimulus” package will increase the unemployment rate. The changes they propose will also make us poorer, with fewer, less productive jobs.

I hope to get this job! I go today around 2:30. I will post later after and tell you all how it went! In my Business Class we just went over good interview skills and what employers are looking for! Good thing!

TRUE LIFE

All day today while cleaning my room and gathering notes for school, Ive been watching MTV's True-Life series of real life situations among teens and young adults. I watched two episodes one about young people that are deaf and trying to live a normal functioning lifestyle and another about people that struggle with the disability of stuttering. Out of the two people for the episode about being deaf, the one girl Amanda was 21 years old and was trying out for the professional dance team and MTV followed her success and struggles. She made it to the ending second half auditions but didn't make the cut. I felt for her, no not because she had a disability but because she was a nice girl, friendly to everyone, practices very hard and has been dancing for years with her struggle and was very talented. As for the episode with stuttering there was a few people and every single one, every time they made a phone call and they would stutter the person on the other end would hang up.

That must be so hard for them, I can only imagine. It made me think about school believe it or not. At Berkeley everyone is so friendly and with the small good sized classes we have, its easy to make friends. In class last night my classmates and I were discussing that. We enjoy the environment of Berkeley College.

CARTOON NETWORK

ATTENTION ALL ART/GRAPHICS MAJORS

During my trip to the city, I was able to experience the Cartoon Network Exhibit.

I was able to see the original sketches of the cartoons you watch on the network itself.

Anyone who has a love for art, would have enjoyed the visit.

I believe it was in promotion to the up coming talk of the season - Rapper T-Pain's creation.

Rapper/producer T-Pain, who is currently wrapping up work on latest album, RevolveR, has made an appearance on the cartoon scene. The 1 hour cartoon extravaganza, Freaknik: The Musical, made its premiere on Sunday night on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. The show is about teenagers who want to attend a spring break party in Atlanta that was canceled back in 1999. Rappers Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg and Big Boi were all involved in the show.

Other Art work featured were from Power Puff Girls, Samurai Sam, Superman, The Jetsons, and Star Wars. They also had live model's molded on display as well.

Class Updates

Currently in my Computer Applications Class we just completed Power Point and now working on Excel. I never knew you could do all these crazy things in Excel like we do with Microsoft Word, its surprising. Power Point was kind of easy for me but, I have a feeling I'm going to have some trouble with Excel.

Get Involved / Reminders

  1. Please take time to take my student poll in the Student Center of the Bergen-Paramus Campus about which class is your favorite here at Berkeley! Thank You!
  2. & Also, just a reminder - March 26th - Wear Purple for Purple Day!

Talk to you soon, Tonight Im going to try and finish reading at least 5 chapter's of Nicholas Spark's The Last Song!

"NEVER SEEN OSCAR LIKE THIS"

ALL FASHION AND PR MAJORS!

The Academy Awards presents

THE OSCARS

(Photo Left: Me with an Oscar Award)

Last week in promotion and preparation to the Academy Awards Oscar night they had an event in NYC. I arrived around 1 in the afternoon to the set up. The event was sponsored by long time association with the Academy - KODAK. All Fashion majors know what is seen and worn on the red carpet of the big night is a huge deal to those celebrities, it could possible make or break their careers.

As I took glances at the actual Oscar award statues I made sure to read the side descriptions of each. The real award that was given to Judy Garland was on display in a beautiful glass display as well. It really was quiet something to see and experience.

" Kodak is very proud to join the Academy in paying tribute to the artistry and creativity of the motion picture industry - and the amazing work that has kept us laughing, crying and cheering through out the years. We congratulate all of this year's Academy Award nominees for their extraordinary achievements."

The actual award show was last night (Sunday, March 7th on the ABC Network). I was rooting for the movie "Precious" to win some awards. It was a touching movie to watch! I will most likely do a blog on that movie soon in relation to a few things. The supporting actress was very well known and liked comedian Mo'nique who had received a Oscar last night for that movie. Seeing her play such a serious role was shocking and very intriguing. The award for Best Female Actress went to Sandra Bullock for her performance in "The Blind Side." I am yet to see that movie but her speech was both funny and heartfelt. She thanked her mother whom she noted that she apologizes that she had never thanked before when she in the past has won awards. Her mother had past away and this was her moment of glory. It was very touching also when she thanked all the mothers who take in and take care and love the children who are not biologically theirs. It was so sweet. (It was also in relation to her role in the movie where she plays a real life mother hero taking care of someone who isn't her child.)

"While accepting her award, an emotional Bullock thanked "what this film was about for me, which are the moms that take care of the babies and the children no matter where they come from."

Here are some Fun Facts!

* Over the 82 year history of the Academy Awards the majority of OSCAR winning movies have been created using KODAK motion picture film.

*KODAK has earned 8 OSCARS from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.

* Since it was built in 2001 the KODAK Theatre is considered the offical home of the OSCAR AWARDS.

CONGRATS TO ALL THE WINNERS LAST NIGHT!

Everyone looked stunning!

DEARJOHN / SEIZURE AWARENESS

DEARJOHN Continuation..

(Photo: Berkeley Students Anam & I)

Both Students pictured agree to DEAR JOHN being one of the best novels written that will touch your heart.

If you readers enjoyed or are simply interested in the story of DEARJOHN written by the amazing Nicholas Sparks, you may like this.

I figured to compile a few samples from this book that had touched me the most, without giving away parts of the chapters they belong to. Like I have said before in my previous blog I personally believe the novel is way better than the film. Check it out for yourself! Do you agree?

*Cutest Moments from DEARJOHN*

1. "She had the rare ability to be exactly what people needed when she was with them and yet still remain true to herself." (referring to Savannah)

2. "But instead I stay where I am and stare up at the moon as well. And with the briefest instant, it almost feels like we're together again."

3. "We strolled down the beach, and as we neared the house, we moved away from the waters edge, into the softer sand. Our feet slipped with every step, and I could feel Savannah tighten her grip on my hand."

SEIZURE FIRST AID!
Purple Day- March 26th

If someone was having a seizure would you know what to do? On the 26th I will give you the facts and information! Please wear purple on this date! Spread love and awareness!

DEAR JOHN

Internet in my house has been down, due to the snow storm last week. I apologize. When the roads finally cleared by Saturday I was able to go to the movies with my best friend Ally. I've been reading the book DEARJOHN for a about 2 months and just completed it in time to see it in the theatres.

We were very pumped up to go see it. Unfortunately, I didn't like the movie. It was to rushed and seemed incomplete. The book and film were different in some major ways. If you read the book their is a cute "thing" dealing with the full moon that the film does not imply exactly nor use. It upset me because that "thing" is what had me in tears at the end of the book.

Review the movie for yourself. Tell me what you think. Read the book! I promise its an excellent read!

Check it out here!

I had explained to you before, due to the snow storm my internet cable had snapped and I am unable to blog from home. I hope all of you were safe and able to travel with no harm! Its hard, because now alot of us have alot of work to catch up on due to cancelled classes!

Good Luck to All!
